Background

Built on the former WWII airfield at Llanbedr, Spaceport Snowdonia formally opened in mid-2025 with a high-altitude balloon launch and a vertical rocket demonstration, backed by £1.3 million in investment including UK Space Agency funding. It currently operates as a space technology test centre – offering a thermal vacuum chamber, centrifuge, and rocket engine test stand – in partnership with Newton Launch Systems, while continuing to pursue full horizontal orbital launch status.
